Free Grab and Go Meals
The Hawaii DOE Free Grab and Go meal program started on October 12 and will run through December 18, 2020. Meals will be available for children ages 18 and younger.
Meal distribution will be during lunchtime only. Pick up will be from 11:30 – 11:45 am in front of the cafeteria. Starting October 12, lunch meals will also include the following day’s breakfast. Parents who have children off campus will no longer have to request a meal with the Google form we had from the first quarter.
To help parents, we mailed home student IDs via the U.S. Postal service. You should have received the ID last week along with a letter explaining the meal program. The ID can be used as one of the required documents needed when picking up Free Grab and Go meals. We will do our best to predict the amount of meals to prepare and make adjustments moving forward. We hope that this service will be helpful for all of our students and families.
Dear Lehua Families,
Hawaii DOE Superintendent Dr. Christina Kishimoto prepared a letter to parents regarding the Acellus Learning Accelerator online program. Lehua Elementary uses a variety of instructional methods and resources for distance learning. Acellus is not the primary/only source of content delivery for the core subject areas. With that being said, we will be looking for other alternatives to supplement our content for distance learning and start to transition away (possible timeline - by the end of quarter 2) from using Acellus as recommended by the HIDOE review team. See the attached letter from Superintendent Kishimoto.
Panorama Student Survey (Gr. 3 - 6)
Aloha Grade 3 - 6 Parents,
Every year, students in grades 3 - 6 have an opportunity to participate in the Panorama Student Survey. Students will answer questions about their teacher and our school. Surveys will be done virtually. If you do not want your child to participate in the survey, please complete the attached declination letter by November 1, 2020. You may email the completed letter to email@example.com, sign and drop off at school or mail it.
Letter from CAS Keith Hui
Dear Lehua Families,
Yesterday, our Complex Area Superintendent, Mr. Keith Hui sent a letter to Pearl City and Waipahu schools to officially announce the plans for 2nd Quarter. The decision was made to continue with distance learning through second quarter to December 18, 2020. As explained in the letter, all of the Leeward District schools will also be continuing with distance learning. We understand that for many of you, this extension of distance learning will cause some hardship for your family. Our teachers and staff are doing their best to provide effective instruction and activities to support your child’s academic and social growth. We will continue to work together to improve our systems and appreciate all that you are doing to support your child/children.
Letter from CAS Keith Hui
Dear Lehua Families,
Attached is a letter from our Complex Area Superintendent, Mr. Keith Hui regarding distance learning plans for Quarter 2. As announced from last week’s press conference by Superintendent Kishimoto, schools will look towards the Department of Health’s Guidance for Schools when making decisions on whether or not students would return to campus. Our complex area is discussing a possible staggered approach to bringing students back, but we will start the second quarter like we are now with distance learning. Please see the letter for more information.
Distance Learning Will Continue Through 1st Quarter
The Hawai'i State Department of Education announced today that it will continue the Learn from Home phase of distance learning for most students statewide through the first quarter, which ends Oct. 2.The extension applies to all O'ahu schools and most neighbor island schools. Students with an individualized educational program (IEP) will continue with in person face to face instruction on campus unless otherwise determined by the IEP team.
